Paula Chesley Column: Words Matter Language, culture, and cognition
Paula Chesley is a linguist at the University of Alberta in Canada, where she spends a lot of time thinking about words. How we create new words, how we process words in the brain, and how words spread through social networks are just some of the questions her research addresses. She is particularly interested in the social contexts of language use, whether in hip-hop songs or writings in medical journals.
